Ron DiNicola endorsed by Erie Times-News

The Erie Times-News, the largest circulation newspaper based in Pennsylvania’s 16th District, has endorsed Democrat Ron DiNicola for Congress.

The newspaper cited DiNicola’s focus on finding common-sense solutions and fighting ‘dark money’ and special interests in Washington as key strengths that secured the endorsement over incumbent Congressman Mike Kelly.

Here is an excerpt from the editorial endorsing DiNicola.

“…what gives DiNicola the edge, in our judgment, is his emphasis on brokering common-sense, collaborative solutions on issues important to western Pennsylvania families and businesses, and building the coalitions that will be needed.

DiNicola also proposes a series of measures aimed at limiting the extent to which “dark money” and special interests shape public policy and bypass the public interest. We agree that more transparency is sorely needed in federal politics.

DiNicola’s focus on solutions for families and communities is borne out by his track record. He has a history of civic involvement, including spearheading the push to create an Erie County community college and helping to resurrect the Police Athletic League to mentor at-risk children.

There is a pressing need for a change of tone and mindset in Congress. We believe DiNicola is a better fit than Kelly for this moment.”

The editorial also noted DiNicola’s willingness to work with President Donald Trump on issues that would benefit Western Pennsylvania, but criticized Kelly for “tracking so closely with the president and party” whose positions often aren’t “in sync with Erie’s interests.”
